Merritt Saunders Harker Obituary (1952 - 2020)

Merritt S. Harker (68) of Nampa, ID passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Merritt had been battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer since his diagnosis in 2018. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cyndy, two daughters, Robyn (Jack) Richardson of Melba, ID and Marissa (Kevin) Nelson of Syracuse, UT, thirteen grandchildren, and three great granddaughters. Merritt grew up farming in Eastern Idaho with his father. He was the twelfth of thirteen children consisting of 10 sisters and 2 brothers. In 1971, Merritt married his high school sweetheart, Cyndy, in the Idaho Falls Temple for time and all eternity. He moved his family to the Melba valley in 1980, where he farmed for four decades. Merritt was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many church callings. He loved to serve people in any capacity. He especially enjoyed working with the youth. Merritt loved farming and took great pride in making straight rows. He enjoyed all seasons of the year. He relaxed with snowmobiling in Winter, worked with cows and calves in Spring, took his family and friends boating in Summer, and harvested in Fall. He loved his family and included them in all his activities. He enjoyed playing hard and working hard. Merritt is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Lettie Harker, two sisters, four brothers-in-law, and three children. Services will include a viewing at the Melba LDS church building on Thursday, November 5, 2020, 6-8 pm. His funeral will be on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 11 am at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 11 am at Hillcrest Cemetery in Shelley, ID. The family would like to thank St. Luke's Cancer Institute and Heart 'n Home Hospice.
