Ralston William Scott Obituary (1937 - 2017)

Ralston William Scott (Scotty) was born in Rigby, Idaho on April 11, 1937 to Cecil C. and Vetta Grover Scott. He was one of four boys: Wayde, Jack, Ralston and Dee. Their parents taught them early to work hard and well. The Scott Grocery Store was in Lincoln, Idaho, a sugar-beet company town. Ralston and his brothers all worked in the store in customer service, stocking shelves and pumping gas. Ralston also worked a summer for the School District repairing and painting. He drove truck at harvest time. Rolston joined a pilots club and earned a flying license. He followed his older brother Wayde into the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office as a deputy. He enjoyed that work. He also loved to fish. He loved boats. He went in the Air Force and was honorably discharged. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Northern California and Oregon from 1957 to 1959. On May 27, 1959 JoAnn Park and Ralston William Scott were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She had waited for him while he served a faithful church mission. JoAnn was and is the love of his life. He did tell her that "you must always let me be involved in Scouting because that program takes boys and teaches them life skills and turns them into great men." She did let him be "involved in scouting" and he did share his talents, enthusiasm and knowledge with many young men and adults. Ralston and JoAnn have raise four children: daughter Katherine Scott (O'Toole), Ralston Scott, Jr., Richard Wayde Scott and Randall Wayne Scott. He worked for the Union Pacific Rail Road Company starting out as a carpenter, then plumber, then he became the separation plant coordinator for all the Western States and lastly he worked in the Environmental Science Division. He made friends wherever he worked and traveled. As a scouter Ralston attended Wood Badge, was chosen for Order of the Arrow, been on many Scout Camporees, attended and was on staff at National Jamborees. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for his leadership ability. During his scouting service he served in two Bishoprics which gave him much opportunity to help and teach boys, as well as adults who wanted to learn about the scouting program and become leaders themselves. Friends Marvin Laub, Martin Thorne and Scotty were known as the three musketeers. They served on many district camporees together. Add a couple more guys- Joel Brown and Rich Murphy- and now you have five musketeers--all a little bit crazy but together as leaders they could create a fun time to be had by all. Ralston was a Ham Radio buff. He belonged to three clubs: Snake River, Voice of Idaho and Lewis and Clark. For many years he was tester. Ralston was preceded in death by his son Ralston William Scott, Jr. (Oct. 21, 2013); his parents; grandparents; and his brother Dee L. Scott.
