Richard Dee "Dick" Payne passed away on the morning of October 23, 2015 at the age of 78. Dick was a compassionate and loving husband, father, teacher, LDS Bishop, and neighbor. He was loved by virtually all who had the privilege of interacting with him. Until the very end, his selfless service to others was constantly widening his circle of those who called him friend. Dick loved his profession teaching economics at BSU. He was an avid tennis player and also loved backpacking, gardening, and his famous '68 Toyota Corona "Old Blue." Dick was born to Edward W. Payne and Gertrude Liechty on August 8, 1937 in Provo, Utah. He volunteered for the army in his teens and served honorably. He then served an LDS mission to Switzerland and Austria. He married Patricia LaVerne Parker in Logan, Utah on Jan 10, 1964. They have four boys, Richard Lee (Deanne) Payne, David Merrill (Johanna) Payne, Michael Douglas (Jennifer) Payne, and Steven Lynn (Lyric) Payne. They have fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. They will all miss him dearly. A viewing will be held at Zeyer Funeral Chapel on Wednesday night, 10/28/2015 from 6-8pm. The address is 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. the next morning (10/29/15) at the Hill Road LDS chapel, 2680 W Hill Rd in Boise. A brief viewing will also be held from 10-10:45 prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dick Payne Memorial Scholarship fund at BSU.
